Our Sports Academies provide a wide range of sports for you to choose from, enabling you to combine your studies with playing and developing your skills in the sport you love.
Learners can "bolt on" a sport academy alongside their full time study programme.
The Sports Academy is a talent development system designed to help you become the best athlete you can be in your chosen sport.

Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme – (TASS)
The College Merthyr Tydfil is proud to be one of only three Further Education Colleges in Wales to be awarded TASS status.
The Sport England-backed programme supports young sportspeople on the talent pathway to have the opportunity to gain qualifications alongside their sporting pursuits, follow other interests, as well as further their personal development. By formally recognising an institution’s commitment to supporting student-athletes, the TASS Dual Career Accreditation Scheme aims to allow athletes to reach their potential in education alongside achieving success in their sport.
- To compete at international or regional level in your sport.
- Enrol on a full-time educational programme at the college.
- A firm commitment to TASS mentoring sessions and events
- Complete an expression of interest via email.
- Attend an informal interview with the Dual Career Co-Ordinator
- A designated Dual Career Co-Ordinator with mentoring sessions.
- Support and adjustments with studies.
- High level pastoral support
- Access to a variety of TASS workshops.
- Access to a range of educational workshops from various national governing bodies and professional organisations.
