The college is proud to announce that student Callum Hook delivered an outstanding performance recently, winning The Intercollegiate Tour Championship held at Mottram Hall Golf Club in Macclesfield.
Competing against the top collegiate golfers from across the North and South regions, Callum demonstrated exceptional skill and consistency with rounds of 70, 69, and 76, finishing the three-day championship at 1-under par. His impressive victory has earned him an invitation to the prestigious Faldo Junior Tour, which will take place at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates.
Reflecting on his success, Callum commented:
"I'm extremely happy with my performance over the three rounds, and I am grateful for the support the college has provided me. Over the last two years, I've had a first-class experience—benefiting from high-quality coaching, performance support, and excellent facilities. The additional lessons and practice time have significantly improved my game."
"I'd also like to thank my teammates. We push each other to do our best, and finishing fourth as a team—just six shots behind the leaders—shows our strength. I'm confident we'll build on this and go even further next year."
The college golf team delivered a strong collective performance, finishing 4th overall behind Durham College C, Durham College A, and Itchen College. This marks a significant achievement for the team and underscores the continued success and growth of the college’s Golf Academy, led by Head Coach Neil Matthews.
Coach Matthews has been instrumental in developing a high-performance programme that blends elite coaching with academic excellence. His dedication and experience continue to elevate the standard of play and professionalism among the student-athletes.
Among the standout performers was first-year Business student William Pontin, who finished in the top 10 nett scorers in the national finals. William had an exceptional qualification phase, emerging as the top-ranked player in the South Qualification league tables—an outstanding achievement given the challenging conditions throughout the season.
The college would also like to acknowledge and congratulate the other team members who represented the college this year:
Simon Evans, Assistant Principal, praised the team's achievements:
"This is a fantastic accomplishment by Callum and the entire golf team. The results are a testament to their commitment, discipline, and hard work. Special thanks must go to Neil Matthews for leading such an exceptional programme. His coaching and leadership have helped shape a culture of excellence, and we look forward to seeing how the programme continues to grow."
The college is immensely proud of all the students involved and is excited about what lies ahead for the Golf Academy.
