College Merthyr Tydfil named a Microsoft showcase school

The College Merthyr Tydfil is delighted to announce that it has been named a Microsoft Showcase School for 2022-23 – a prestigious achievement, with only hundreds of schools around the world achieving the accolade each year.

This award means that Microsoft has recognised our institution as a Showcase School, part of an elite group of schools that exemplify the best of teaching and learning in the world today. We take pride in knowing that Microsoft recognizes our impact on the future of education.

A Microsoft Showcase School is committed to school-wide digital transformation, specifically, using Microsoft’s Education Transformation Framework – and the technology that it entails – to drive a culture of learning, innovation and continuous improvement.

Commenting on the accolade, Principal Lisa Thomas said, “Our Microsoft Education Transformation Journey began at exactly the right time to support the staff and learners at the college in navigating their way through the challenges of online learning. We have received such positive feedback from learners and parents in the past two academic years and teachers have contributed fully to this transformation, reinventing their approach to traditional teaching and utilising digital technology to teach, support and communicate with learners by the most effective and efficient means”.

During this period 38 members of staff have become Microsoft Certified Educators and 11 have being Innovator Educator Experts.

Our Digital Coordinator, Gareth Morgan commented, “Staff have made a massive contribution to the college's digital development in recent years and seeing the impact of this on teaching and learning through our Microsoft journey is most rewarding as we always strive to put our learners first”.

Microsoft Showcase Schools are pioneers in education. You are part of an exclusive global community, recognized and celebrated for educational transformation that includes vision and innovation in teaching, learning, and preparing students for the future.

In becoming a Showcase School, Microsoft will be supporting the college with its aspiration to inspire lifelong learning, stimulating development of essential future-ready skills so students are empowered to achieve more. Benefits include groups, teams and worldwide collaboration with like-minded school leaders and education innovators to further transform learning; access to Microsoft events and tech launches; partner and product support; access to up-to-date guidance, resources, and research; and elevating The College Merthyr Tydfil’s visibility and role as a leading institution.

Chris Ford, Director of Learning, commented, “This is an excellent achievement for the college and follows two years of rapid digital development in terms of staff, resources and infrastructure. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this success, particularly our digital coordinator Gareth Morgan, our IT Support staff and Digital Working Group and finally our team of certified Microsoft Educators, Innovators and Innovator Experts”.
