The College Merthyr Tydfil Painting and Decorating learner Keira Evans is, this evening, celebrating competing in the WorldSkillsUK painting and decorating competition.
This is a tremendous achievement for Keira who began her studies on our level 1 City & Guilds painting and decorating course before progressing successfully on to level 2 and now on to level 3.
Keira, a past pupil of Afon Taf, worked extremely hard in preparation for the competition and produced some fantastic work over the 3 days. This accolade is just one of many to add to Keira’s outstanding achievements over the last two years, which include, amongst other things, being awarded the Stretch Test Painting & Decorating WorldSkillUk winner!
The WorldSkillUK competition included 400 students and apprentices from 64 different skills battling it out in 22 locations covering all nations of the UK, in their quest to be named champions and winners of coveted Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. To compete at this level of the competition showcases not only Keira’s painting and decorating ability and skills but also the hard work and determination she has to be the very best painter possible.
Christine Bissex, Worldskills Co-ordinator at the college, commented “Keira’s success showcases the achievements that are possible for all of our learners and I look forward to supporting more of our learners to register and compete in skills competitions over the next few months.”
Keira said ‘I would like to give thanks to the college and my tutors for the time and effort they have afforded me. This has allowed me to showcase my skills and progress to the UK finals this is a massive achievement for me and the experience has given me the self-confidence to start my own business.”
