At the college Merthyr Tydfil we believe everyone in our college community should have the opportunity to participate, inspiring a lifelong enjoyment of activity which supports positive emotional, social and physical wellbeing.
Physical Activity and Fitness Sessions
As part of our active wellbeing timetable, we offer a variety of opportunities including gym sessions, basketball, badminton, table tennis, dodgeball and many more activities.
These sessions are a good opportunity to get active, connect with others and is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety.
Healthy Lifestyle Program
As part of our program, we offer a range of workshops and drop-in sessions to help you live a healthy lifestyle, we offer advice and guidance on topics including mindfulness, nutrition and sleep.
At the college we offer a range of volunteering opportunities that are fun, fulfilling, and can help support with future job and university applications. Within the Active Well Being department, we offer our Active Ambassadors programs, Duke of Edinburgh and for community and additional volunteering opportunities we work with Active Merthyr Tydfil, the local sports development department, to provide placements in the Merthyr area.
Active Ambassadors
The active ambassadors program provides an opportunity for learners who are interested in sports development, physical activity, customer service and event management. It's a great way to further develop skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork. There are also opportunities to gain extra coaching qualifications, attend trips away and mentoring.
Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)
If you are interested in getting involved in the Duke of Edinburgh or would like to continue your journey, we can offer you that opportunity at The College Merthyr.
The DofE is described as ‘a life changing experience’. There are four sections to complete at bronze and silver level and five at Gold. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity.

Active Merthyr Tydfil Program
If you have an interest in sport and physical activity and would like to volunteer, then we can help support you with a placement. The active wellbeing department work closely with Active Merthyr Tydifl, the local sports development department, to provide opportunities to volunteer in the sports industry within the local community.
