Keira Evans

Painting and Decorating learner Keira Evans competed in the WorldSkillsUK painting and decorating competition 2021.

This was a tremendous achievement for Keira who began her studies on our level 1 City & Guilds painting and decorating course before progressing successfully on to level 2 and now on to level 3.

Keira, a past pupil of Afon Taf, worked extremely hard in preparation for the competition and produced some fantastic work over the 3 days. Lucia Rowberry

Lucia Rowburrey is studying L3 Applied Science visited one of our employability/careers drop-in sessions recently, to ask for advice regarding a career in Civil Engineering.

We were able to set her up with some work experience with a civil engineer at Tilbury Douglas so Lucia could get a taste of what the job entailed.
Here's what Lucia said:
"I really valued the chance to get some on-the-job experience, before deciding if Civil Engineering was the right path for me. Anneka, from Tilbury Douglas, showed me what her role entails as a Site Engineer. It was a fantastic opportunity. Off the back of this, I was lucky enough to be offered the chance to apply for a future apprenticeship with the company!"

Uriel Rivera

Uriel Rivera, studying Physics, Maths, Further Maths and Engineering is the chair of our Brilliant Club has achieved amazing things whilst studying with us. Below is what she has to say about studying at The College Merthyr Tydfil.

"My name is Uriel, I am a student from Merthyr College. Over the last few months, we have been studying 'what is the universe made of?' with our PhD tutor Merion Evans.

Although my favourite part of the course was the researching stage, I found this quite challenging. However, I was able to independently overcome this by improving and learning techniques and skills such as being able to organise my notes, summarise paragraphs into main points as well as ensuring sources were reliable.

It was a privilege to participate in a valuable experience; I'm confident all of us have been able to take something from this course, whether it is an insight to university work, vital essay skills or what the universe is made of."

Ava McMenamin

Ava McMenamin who is studying Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics has recenetly graduated from The Brilliant Club Scholars programme has said this about her experience:

"I enjoyed learning about dark the experiments being carried out to try to produce dark matter the most. I also feel the scholars programme benefited my understanding of what it would be like to study at university, and I think it has helped prepare to research at an undergraduate level. I plan on applying to Cambridge to study a maths degree next year."
