BTEC Applied Science is an alternative to studying Science at A Level and develops a blend of technical and academic science skills that will support your progression to university or employment. It is a full two-year course that is equivalent to three A-Levels. The BTEC is specifically designed for those wishing to progress into Higher Education courses in the Applied Science sector before entering employment.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above including at least a C in Science (or a distinction in Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science) and a C in both English and Mathematics.
You will study Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and contemporary issues within science such as forensic analysis, medical physics, disease and infection and laboratory skills.
The extended diploma is the second year of this two-year qualification. This course contains a mixture of units assessed through exams, externally set and marked tasks but with more emphasis on assignments. The grades achieved for each unit are combined to give an overall final grade.
Our students have gone on to further study in areas such as biology, biomedical science, nursing, forensic science and chemistry. Not all students decide to go on to higher levels of study, and alternatively do apprenticeships in engineering, healthcare, and technology.
