Course Outline
At Merthyr we teach the GCSE mathematics qualification at Intermediate level. This will give you the opportunity to achieve at least a C grade and with hard work possibly a B grade. The course comprises of 2 hours of teaching a week assisted by online videos to help ensure you fully understand the content covered.
Entry Requirements
We generally require a previous D grade in GCSE maths. However we do on occasion accept students with lower grade profiles after discussion with the course tutor.
What will I learn?
We follow the WJEC Mathematics intermediate course syllabus. Topics covered include Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Shape & Space.
Course Assessment
The course will be assessed by two formal examinations in the summer term. Unit 1 will be non-calculator & Unit 2 will be calculator. Regular informal assessments will also occur over the course of the year.
Career Progression
A grade C in mathematics will open up a variety of options to both study courses within the college along with enhanced future career opportunities.
