RTITB Vehicle Mounted Hydraulic Lorry Loader (HIAB)

Course Outline

The RTITB Vehicle Mounted Hydraulic Lorry Loader (often called a lorry loader, vehicle mounted hydraulic loader or by the manufacturer name “hiab“) operator course will give you the skills to operate the crane safely and efficiently. You will learn how to carry out a pre-use inspection, operate the various attachments, manoeuvre a variety of loads using the machine, and understand signals given by the slingers and signallers. You will also be able to recall and explain the causes of instability of the truck and loads.

Entry Requirements

Must have a LGV licence Category C1, C, or CE

What will I learn?

Pre-Use Inspection. How to check the equipment before use to ensure safety and functionality

Crane Operations. Operating various attachments, Manoeuvring different types of loads using the hydraulic loader. Using stabilisers and understanding load charts.

Communication and Signals. Understanding and responding to signals from slingers and signallers

Safety and Legislation. Health and Safety legislation relevant to lorry loader operation. Causes of instability in the truck and load, and how to prevent accidents
