Course Outline

The ability to speak Welsh will open up a whole new world of Welsh culture to you! With over 582,000 Welsh speakers and tens of thousands of people learning, the Welsh language has its own unique culture. The Welsh second language A Level is also a highly respected and accepted qualification by all UK universities since it shows that you have learned another language to a very high level.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grades A* to C including Welsh C grade or above in English Language plus a B grade in GCSE full course Welsh or an A grade in short course Welsh.

What will I learn?

You will study the film Patagonia, starring Matthew Rhys, Nia Roberts and Duffy! You will be assessed in groups of 2 or 3 students on your response to the film. You will be also be assessed individually on the contents of your written portfolio. You will produce a package of three written pieces on one of the following. • a specific area of Wales • a social issue • a cultural issue • a vocational issue • an historical subject • a political issue

By choosing to study Welsh second language at A level you will be able broaden the career opportunities available to you. Fluent Welsh speakers are in high demand in careers such as: • Media and performing arts • Journalism • Welsh Government • Teaching
