Studying A level English Literature inspires learners to read a wealth of fiction-based literature and in doing so, apply their knowledge literacy terminolgy and understanding of literacy critical theory. Learners will become avid readers and have the opportunity to engage with Victorian, Post-war and Twentieth Century time periods which aim to inform their cultural, socio-economic, historical and political understanding of a text further.
5 GCSEs at grades A* to C, with a C grade or above in English Language
Learners will engage with stagecraft terminology in the analysis of plays; develop their interpretation of character, plot theme in prose and examine the hidden meanings in poetry. The course is defined by its ability to inspire a critical and creative line of enquiry in the analysis of the classics.
80% Exams; 20% coursework
Many students apply to, and are offered places at, university to study courses such as English Literature, Creative Writing and Journalism, Drama, Law, History and Politics.
