Course Outline

The HND in Computing is a 2 year full time course studied at levels 4/5. The course is aimed at those aspiring towards careers in Computing, IT, and End User Support or those who wish to continue with their education at a Higher Education Level.

Entry Requirements

A BTEC National Diploma in a relevant subject or Two Advanced level subjects, at least one in a relevant subject. Mature students are welcome on the course, we take into account accreditation of prior learning, work based learning and candidates career aspirations.

What will I learn?

Professional Practice in Computing – This will make you aware of the professional, social, legal and ethical issues, and the ability to demonstrate an ethical approach to your work and issues such as computer security and privacy legislation. It make you ready for employment. Software Development – Here learners will use an industry standard object orientated language to develop a computer game. Information Systems Analysis and Design 1 - It provides the practical and intellectual skills needed to analyse and model data and processing for problems of a defined scope, and to design suitable information systems. This is a practical module where you will develop a database solution. Computer Systems and Networking Concepts – This module gives you a fundamental understanding of how computer systems and networks function. It covers a broad range of topics that underpins computing in general. Computer Programming 1 – This gives learners a fundamental understanding of C# by providing practical sessions to develop key coding skills. Web Development – Here learners will development a website using industry standard coding and software. Problem Solving for Computing – This provides learners with the core concepts of computational thinking and introduces topics that are used within business.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a degree program or software design and development, programming, software analysis, web design and development, database developer, games developer, cyber security, IT technical support and network engineer.
