Course Outline

The course aims to prepare learners for adult life with a practical approach and consolidating skills previously studied. The course is an accredited programme with learners completing a BTEC qualification at Entry 3 level. Learners will participate in work experience and access a range of community facilities to support their progression to employment.

Entry Requirements

The Vocational Studies course requires an interview with the course tutor before acceptance onto the course, learners will also be required to complete a WEST assessment. Progression between levels is not automatic.

What will I learn?

Learning is based around the BTEC Entry 3 Vocational Study framework and the ILS Four Pillars curriculum: Independent Living Community Inclusion Employability Health and Wellbeing Learners will also be working towards improving their communication, numeracy, and digital literacy skills, through completing an Essential Skills Wales qualification or upskilling.

Course Assessment

Learners will complete a number of assignments throughout the academic year to gain the BTEC qualification. Throughout the course the learner, teaching team and the family play a key role in tracking and reviewing targets, to ensure they are meaningful and realistic for each learner.

Career Progression

On completing the course learners will have developed their skills around the four pillars of learning, enabling progress towards their long-term destination, some learners may progress onto the Supported Internship Programme, Level 1 courses, or employment.
