Course Outline
The Pathway 4 programme is aimed at interns aged 16 to 25 with a diagnosis of a learning disability and/or autism. Interns will need to have a mature attitude, be willing to learn and develop their skills, and be dedicated to finding employment. The Supported Internship is a work-based programme based at Prince Charles Hospital with placements in areas such as Portering, Housekeeping, Hospitality, Catering, Occupational Therapy and Dietetic. Pathway 4 will be the final year for the interns who have the potential to progress into paid employment.
Entry Requirements
Many interns will have progressed from Pathway 2 or 3. Vocational profiling will take place to ensure all interns are in a suitable placement. Progression between courses is not automatic.
What will I learn?
Learning is based around a curriculum that will prepare the interns for employment, it is person centred, where the interns will have the opportunity to develop their strengths and skills within the workplace. Each intern will work towards specific targets that will support their destination and develop their confidence in their own abilities to perform successfully at work. The interns will have the opportunity to practise and improve their independence skills including independent travel to and from the workplace.
Course Assessment
Following this individual targets will be set with each interns that focuses on specific skills they wish to develop to support their destination. Throughout the course the intern, teaching team and the family play a key role in tracking and reviewing targets, to ensure they are meaningful and realistic for each intern and prepare them for paid employment.
Career Progression
The ideal outcome is to gain paid employment, either from the host business, or to gain the skills, experience, and confidence to gain employment from an alternative employer.
