Course Outline

The course aims to provide learning opportunities to develop life skills within real life settings. Learners will participate in work experience and access a range of community facilities to increase their skills and support their health and wellbeing. The course is a non-accredited programme which allows teaching and learning to take a person-centred approach, developing the skills individual learners require.

Entry Requirements

The Skills for Life course requires an interview with the course tutor before acceptance onto the course. Progression between courses is not automatic.

What will I learn?

Learning is based around the ILS Four Pillars curriculum: Independent Living Community Inclusion Employability Health and Wellbeing Learners will also be working towards improving their communication, numeracy, and digital literacy skills, with all areas embedded in the four pillars curriculum.

Course Assessment

The course follows a person-centred approach, using an initial baseline assessment. Throughout the course the learner, teaching team and the family play a key role in tracking and reviewing targets, to ensure they are meaningful and realistic for each learner.

Career Progression

On completing the course learners will have developed their skills around the four pillars of learning, enabling progression towards their long-term destination, some learners may progress onto Pathway 2 Skills Development.
