This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to pursue a career in the Care sector. It offers the knowledge and understanding necessary for working with individuals in a variety of job roles within health and social care settings, such as, nursing, midwifery, social work, residential management, housing and the probation service.
Entry onto this course is by interview and requires at least five GCSE’s at A*-C including Mathematics, English and Science.
The qualification enables learners to develop and demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding within the context of health and social care services. It includes the following current issues in relation to Health and Social Care in Wales: • principles of care and safe practice within outcome focused person-centred care • factors affecting individuals’ growth and development across the lifespan and how this impact on outcomes, care and support needs • promoting the rights of individuals across the lifespan • supporting individuals at risk to achieve their desired outcomes • working in the health and social care sector.
It is assessed through a combination of external written assessments, externally set and marked written examinations and internally assessed tasks.
Learners completing this qualification could progress to higher education courses in areas including: Midwifery, Police studies. Speech and language therapy, Psychology, Occupational health, Social work and Nursing.
