Four GCSEs at grade D or above (including Mathematics, English and Science), or an appropriate engineering qualification.
The qualification is an intermediate level course in mechanical engineering. The EAL course structure links closely to industry and training is carried out using industrial standard equipment. The course is targeted at students with some engineering experience at school who wish to follow an apprenticeship in the sector. The Diploma consists of 6 units including Health & safety, engineering techniques, MIG welding, electonics and CAD. The course has a high practical content and primarily competance based. Progression from this course to the Level 3 courses in the Engineering department, however this is subject to the level of achievement by the learner.
Internal assessments and external examination
Successful completion may enable learners to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Engineering or into work based training apprenticeship
