Studying A level English Language and Literature inspires learners to read a wealth of literature and in doing so, apply their knowledge of linguistic and literacy terminolgy to a range of fiction and nonfiction texts. This will enable learners to develop an assured knowledge of the literacy periods, gain insight into various text types and enrich their cultural, socio-economic, historical and political understanding of literature from the 16th Century up to the Twentieth Century.
5 GCSEs at grades A* to C including English Language and Maths, with a grade C or above in English Language.
Learners will also have the opportunity to engage with creative writing by exploring various genres and text types such as screenplays, vlogs, blogs, plays and novels. Learners will become accustomed to multi-modal delivery when contending with spoken transcripts; learn about media, journalism and even have the opportunity to publish their own writing. The course is defined by its ability to inspire a critical and creative line of enquiry in the analysis and the writing of a plethora of texts.
80% Exams; 20% coursework
Many students apply to, and are offered places at, university to study courses such as English Literature, Linguistics and Journalism, Drama, Law, History or Politics
