Honey Bunnies Nursery

The nursery at Merthyr Tydfil College started out as Tiny Tots in September 1994, it provides a day care service for children aged between 3 months and 5 years. There are 12 rooms in the nursery, the baby room is a separate unit which caters for babies aged between 3-12 months, a toddler room 1-2 years, main room which caters for children aged between 2 – 3 years and a pre-school room 3 -5 years.

The nursery is registered for up to 35 children and is open between 8-6p.m Monday to Thursday and 5.30p.m on Friday’s. We also offer part time sessions between 8a.m and 1p.m or 1p.m to 6p.m (5.30p.m on Fridays). Meals are provided at the nursery and consist of a nutritionally well balanced meal that is planned in advance by the nursery cook. Individual dietary needs are always taken into account. Children are provided with breakfast, a 2 course lunch and a small tea. The children are encouraged to sit together at the table, be well mannered and practice their social skills.

The main language spoken in the nursery is English although some staff have attended welsh courses and incorporate this into the nursery day as much as possible.

The nursery follows the birth to three matters framework and also the foundation phase for children over 3 years. We understand that a child’s play has purpose and through enjoyment and stimulation they can progress and achieve new skills.

The nursery offers a wide range of activities which are observed and written down with pictorial evidence. This is to ensure staff are aware of individual needs and are able to plan further activities to help children progress and also to show parents how much fun their child has during the day. All equipment is cleaned by the nursery staff to ensure high levels of hygiene and cleanliness.

Activities include messy play (jelly, pasta), sand and water, creative activities (painting, play dough), imaginative play (dressing up, puppets), physical play (turning wheel, bikes).

Children in the pre-school group follow the 7 areas of the foundation phase and incorporate their learning within ‘themes’. The keyworker with this age group sets learning goals for the children to aim to achieve within each theme. When the children leave to go to school the keyworker completes transition documents to allow continuity between nursery and school.

Feedback
When a child leaves the setting it is always sad to see them go but also nice to see the things they have achieved during their stay.

Parent’s kind words show that the effort and dedication by the staff is appreciated and some of those comments are written below:

Thanks to you all for the wonderful teaching, support and care you have given to Ethan over the past 2 ½ years.
