Public Open Day, Saturday 22nd October 2011, 10.00am – 2.00pm
In preparation for the MLQ construction work to commence, advance works to prepare the ground and create a retaining wall have been ongoing to the south and west elevations of the Merthyr Tydfil College site since August 2011.These works have uncovered the remains of elements of the Ynsyfach Iron Works, that date back to the 1870’s.
This is a very interesting prospect for both Merthyr Tydfil and the College, and to ensure that we take advantage of this exciting opportunity we are hosting a Public Open Day on Saturday 22nd October 2011 at 10.00am – 2.00pm.
The event will enable members of the public to come along and:
· Meet the archaeologists leading the excavation
· Learn more about the history of the Ynysfach Ironworks
· View the archaeological remains, including some small artefacts that have been discovered
· Contribute with ideas and suggestions as to how some of the remains should be incorporated into the new MLQ building
· Gain insight into where the new MLQ building will be accommodated on the College site
The event is open from 10.00am – 2.00pm. No pre booking is needed, just turn up on the day.
