Enterprising students at the College Merthyr Tydfil take on the world!

Two students from the College Merthyr Tydfil were fortunate to be selected to participate in the BBC Radio Wales Programme ‘Wales at Work’ on Thursday 26th June. The students, who were part of the college’s winning Global Enterprise Challenge team, had an opportunity to talk to show host Brian Meechan and leading UN Entreprneur Fiorina Mugione about their views on fostering entrepreneurial skills across Wales.

Students win European/Middle-East and Africa regional enterprise award for their “Farmily” business idea

A team of seven enterprising 16 and 17-year-old students have proved you are never too young to go into business after they were named regional winners of the Global Enterprise Challenge for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The team from The College Merthyr Tydfil had already beaten off 6,000 other students from throughout Wales to win the GEC Wales finals earlier this year that took them to Mainz in Germany last week for the global finals.

College Merthyr Tydfil student awarded for outstanding learning achievements

A Sports Science student from Treharris has been recognised for her outstanding commitment to her studies at the annual UHOVI (Universities Heads of the Valleys Institute) Learner of the Year awards.

Hannah Spacey was named The College Merthyr Tydfil learner of the year at the awards ceremony, held on Wednesday 18th June at Redhouse, Merthyr Tydfil.

Healthcare Academy initiative celebrates first year of success!

Students participating in a unique Healthcare Academy initiative have had their achievements recognised as part of the College Merthyr Tydfil’s Prize Giving Evening held on 17th June 2014.  The initiative, which is run by the college’s science department in partnership with Cwm Taf University Health Board, is open to all college students who are interested in a career in healthcare and can fully commit to the programme.

BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts students invited to perform at the Senedd

Level 3 BTEC Performing Arts students from The College Merthyr Tydfil have been provided with excellent feedback and compliments after being invited, by Huw Lewis AM, to perform their production of STEAM at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay on Monday 2nd June. The piece entitled Steam: A Performance Project Exploring the First Steam Locomotive Journey from Penydarren to Abercynon was commissioned by Merthyr Tydfil Heritage Trust to commemorate Trevithick Day on February 21st.
