College Merthyr Tydfil student gets ready for Sutton Trust Summer School at Harvard University

College Merthyr Tydfil student Chloe Barnett has successfully beaten off competition from over 3,800 other students to gain a place on the Sutton Trust summer-school programme at Harvard University.  Chloe, currently studying AS levels in Mathematics, Science and Welsh at the college, is among 175 students that have been selected to attend week-long summer schools at Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard. In addition, Chloe will also receive individual support to help her through the US application system this autumn.

Hair and Beauty students wow judges with their futuristic hair designs

Level 2 VRQ students from The College Merthyr Tydfil wowed judges with their amazing skills at a recent hairdressing competition. Over forty students took place in the competition, which required them to showcase a range of futuristic hair styles, with themed costumes and makeup, on models of their choice.

Student Demi Price said “It was quite challenging and nerve-wracking but I was very pleased with what I accomplished”.

College Merthyr Tydfil student secures place at prestigious Oxford Summer School

Ethan Evans, an AS Level English Literature and Language student at The College Merthyr Tydfil has been successful in gaining a place on the prestigious Oxford Summer School. Ethan, who wants to read English Literature at University and go on to become an English teacher, successfully beat off competition from 4,000 other applicants to win one of only 44 places available at the summer school.

College Merthyr Tydfil Awarded 1st Place in ‘Big Pitch 2014’ Enterprise Challenge

A group of first year College Merthyr Tydfil Creative Media students have successfully won first place in the Big Pitch 2014 challenge for their innovative brand concept ‘TBall’ - taking the pain out of paintball’.

The team, which beat off competition from six other colleges across South East Wales, were challenged with the task of developing a marketing concept to re-launch paintball to adults and juniors who may have been put off playing paintball because they think it hurts.

College Merthyr Tydfil students scoop awards at Zoom International Youth Film Festival!

Two Students from the College Merthyr Tydfil have had their creative media talents recognised at Wales’ largest film event for young people. Rebecca Hopkins a BTEC level 3 Media student won the prize for Best Documentary for her portrayal of her grandparent’s lives after retirement. Her documentary which was entitled ‘My grandparents and life after retirement’ focused on their daily routine and how they have adjusted to life after working for the last 40 years.
