All our full-time courses are FREE, whatever your age or the course.
Part time courses have a cost, unless
You are a full time student at Merthyr College or any other school, OR
You are under 19 years of age and not on a government funded scheme, OR
You are in receipt of a means tested benefit (JSA, Income Support, Pension Credit, Disability Living Allowance, Housing/Council Tax Benefit, Incapacity Benefit or Working Tax Credit.)

Help with money
Sometimes you may need help to pay for costs incurred by coming to College such as bus fares, books, free meals or childcare. If this is the case, there are a range of grants and funds you can apply for.
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
£30, £20 or £10 per week
16, 17 and 18 year olds on full-time or part-time courses over 12 hours. Your annual household income must be under £30,810 approx per year. EMA’s are dealt by Student Services.
Assembly Learning Grant (ALG)
Those 19 years of age or over on full-time or part-time courses (totalling 275 hours minimum per year). Your annual household income must also be under a specific amount, please contact colege. When students receive their ALG notification they must contact Student Services.
Merthyr Tydfil College Financial Contingency Fund (FCF)
The College fund can help towards the cost of books, course equipment, essential visits, examination fees, childcare and the cost of travel.
Full-time or part-time learners can apply. This fund is means-tested and depends on your financial hardship and personal circumstances.
