What’s On Offer?
We are able to offer individually tailored learning programmes to learners who feel it would help them to succeed on their chosen course. The College has a Learning Resource Centre which includes the Flexible Learning Unit where learners can:
·Drop-in and work independently or with the support of qualified tutors.
·Attend pre-arranged coaching time from a named qualified tutor.
·Discuss in-class coaching where it has been identified by the course tutor, the learning coach and the learner that the on-course coaching programme will meet the individual need. As well as tutorial coaching time the College can help learners by offering a wide range of technical equipment and other programmes including:
·Adapted learning materials e.g. enlarged text, handouts on coloured paper various fonts and sizes
·Laptop computers, Large screen monitors, Modified keyboards
·Specialist software e.g. Jaws, Supernova, Dragon Naturally Speaking
·Inspiration Mind Mapping, Claro-read, Typing Tutor, Electronic spell checkers
·Dictaphones, Note taking, reading and assignment building support
·Individual examination arrangements
·Support in IT, numeracy and literacy
·Advice and counselling
·An Interpreter or lip speaker
·Conversors/Hear Well/Induction Loops
Our student Counsellor and Chaplaincy Service are also available to all students and can be contacted directly or via Students Services.
The College is able to liaise with outside agencies and offer learners specialist advice from, for example an independent Educational Psychologist, Equlaity and Human Rights Commission, Disability Wales, Royal National Institute for the Deaf, Royal National Institute for the Blind, Wales Council for the Blind, Wales Council for Deaf People, Community Support Teams and Integrated Services, British Dyslexia Assocaiation.
