Entry Requirements:
Students are expected to have the CLAIT certificate or equivalent.

Course Description:
This course provides a general introduction to the use of business packages for home, school and office users. The course will be of benefit to those with no knowledge of computers, as well as those who already have some skills, but wish to broaden their experience. Units to be studied are: Using a computer
Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentation Graphics.

What you will Study:
The scheme sets out to assess IT skills in a practical way. It also tests, through source documentation, the student’s ability to select relevant data from business documents. There are five Elements of Certification and are the means of recording positive statements of competence which form the statements that will be printed on the student’s certificate. The assessment elements are:
1. Presentation Graphics
2. Desktop Design
3. Email & Internet
4. Computer Art
5. Spreadsheets

To achieve the full certificate the students must pass all 5 of the above listed elements. If the students do not pass all five elements they will be awarded a Profile Certificate listing the elements in which they have demonstrated competence.

On Completion/ Career Paths:
There is progression from this course to the OCR Clait Plus course which involves the use of the three main applications along with e-mail and a presentation package. The aim of the course is to produce from source documentation and supplementary information business documentation and an automated presentation.
