Entry Requirements:

BTEC First Award or First Diploma in a related subject; an Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject: at least 4 GCSEs grade C or above.

About the Course


This course is aimed mainly at school leavers wishing to pursue a career within the fields of Computing and IT. This is a new syllabus, recently updated to mirror the ever changing world of computing. The course aims to cover a broad range of
areas, giving students a wide range of options within the workplace and higher education. The course consists of 18 units covering areas such as Web Design, Multimedia, Computer Support and Programming. Most of the work is assignment based to prepare for higher education and to simulate a working environment..

What you will Study

Language and Communications, Computer Systems, Business Information systems, Introduction to Software Development, Communications Technology and Systems analysis and Design

The 4 units from Bank A are:
Business IT project (externally assessed), Applications Software Development, Database Management systems (externally assessed) and Business Calculations

The 2 units from Bank B will be offered for study from:
End User support, Website Development, Human computer interface, e-Commerce, Management Information Systems, Multimedia Technology, Software Applications and Data Communications and Networks.

The Welsh Baccalaureate covers subjects such as: Wales, Europe and the World, Work Related Education, Personal and Social Education.

On Completion/Career Paths


BTEC National diplomas are valued by employers and higher education (Universities and Colleges). You can go into a computer related career such as computer technician, computer operators etc. or you can go to University or College and take a HNC in one of the many computer/IT subjects.
