Entry Requirements:
2 A levels, AVCE, or BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in appropriate subjects. Mature students without formal requirements may be accepted following an interview and a satisfactory reference. All students will need to work either on a paid or voluntary basis within an organisation in the field of health and social care.
Course Description:
This course is for individuals of any age who wish to pursue or continue a career in the field of Health and Social Care, including posts with high responsibilities such as those related to supervision and care management. The course provides the knowledge and skills for career development. This is a Higher Education course awarded by the University of Glamorgan. All the classes are provided in Merthyr College but students are able to use the facilities of the University as well as the college. Some employers will offer some financial support for students whilst other students will need to self-fund.
What you will Study:
Modules include;
Year 1;
Social Care & Health Organisations, Using Research in Practice, Equality, Diversity & Rights, Applied Social & Psychological Studies, Working with Welfare Policy and the Employment Experience Certificate.
Year 2;
3 option modules plus Integrating Research in Health and Social Care and the Employment Experience Certificate.
On Completion/ Career Paths:
Students may exit with a HNC or Foundation Degree to enrol onto other Higher Education courses. Students are able to enrol on the BSc Care Studies currently offered in other franchised colleges.
