The date for the 2012 Global Village has been changed and will now be held on Sunday 1 July at Cyfarthfa Park. (How to find us.)

The Merthyr Tydfil Global Village Festival was established in 2005 to celebrate the cultural diversity and heritage of Merthyr Tydfil. Initial discussion took place within the Multi Agency Diversity Forum (MADF) – a partnership of local statutory and voluntary organisations that meet to address issues of diversity and hate crime. The members of the MADF wanted to develop an event that took their responsibilities and work in this area outside of their own organisations and that accomplished something meaningful. All MTGV committee members/trustees give of their time in planning and running the day 'in kind' - GV is outside of our daily work remit and only runs because of the commitment of the individuals involved. Recently the MTGV Festival has achieved charitable status.

Global Village is in its very essence about participation: a coming together of the various groups of people that live in the borough to celebrate diversity and difference. The festival uses music, dance, art, voice and performance in an inclusive and celebratory context.  The array of activity means that there is something for everybody; people can develop their creative side and widen their cultural horizons.

In the two weeks leading up to the festival we hold workshops in various locations. (Workshops will be announced soon.)

We hope that you enjoy the event and look forward to seeing you again next year.
