BTEC National Diploma Art & Design (L3)

Full Time 2 Years

Entry Requirements:

4 GCSE’s at C, or a BTEC 1st Diploma in Art & Design. The course tutor will interview all students.

About the Course


This course is normally covered over two years by full time study however, part time options may be available for those wishing to achieve a National Certificate.

This is a level 3 course, equivalent to 2 or 3 A levels and is recognised by both universities and employers. Entry is by interview and applicants will need 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above or a First Diploma in Art and Design. Mature students may be accepted without formal qualifications at interview.

What you will Study


This course is designed to allow students to develop a broad range of skills in art and design in year 1 and also offers the opportunity to produce personal project work in specialist area in their second year of study via a final major project.

Stimulating and contemporary project briefs encourage research from primary sources, which include visits to exhibitions in Wales, England and European cities.
Students are encouraged to make use of the internet, books, journals and multimedia to learn about art practice and to inform and inspire their work.

Stimulating studio spaces are available for painting, drawing and life drawing. There are also specialist workshops available for ceramics, photography and graphic design. Opportunities to develop and improve key skills including IT and communication are integrated fully into project work.

On Completion/Career Paths


A large percentage of our student’s progress onto courses at Universities in Wales and England. Support is given with university applications, building portfolios and references are provided.

The National Diploma provides progression onto HND or B.A. study in the following disciplines: – Fine Art, Graphic Design, 3D design Photographic Art, Documentary Photography, Product design, Interior Design, Fashion and Textiles, Art History, Multimedia.
