The College Merthyr Tydfil has formed a partnership with Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association to lease specialised space in REDHOUSE Old Town Hall – Hen Neuadd y Dref, a new arts and creative industries centre based in the Old Town Hall in the heart of the town.
This partnership provides all Music, Media, Film, Dance, Technical Theatre and Drama students with an exciting opportunity to study in bespoke professional standard facilities.
These include:
The building also includes a gallery, café and studios which are rented by creative businesses. Students experience daily the thrill of being in a vibrant arts centre alongside members of the public and both visiting and resident professional artists.
The Old Town Hall was built in 1896 to house the Council Chamber, courts and holding cells. After years of use as a civic and private building it fell into disuse and disrepair. The Old Town Hall was purchased by Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association in 2007 and, working with a range of funding partners, MTHA has restored the building, blending its unique period features with new technologies and facilities. The building is now called REDHOUSE Old Town Hall – Hen Neuadd y Dref to reflect its new identity.
