Students studying on a new BA Hons Business Studies Degree at The College Merthyr Tydfil have achieved outstanding results in its first year with an overall 92% pass rate and over 25% of students gaining a 1st class honours degree.
The BA Hons Business Studies Degree, which was introduced in 2015, aims to provide a progression route for local learners looking to boost their career prospects or employees looking to further develop their business skills.
Students Malgorzata Stoncel and Beata Smolinska both achieved 1st class honours degrees. Malgorzata commented “Having this progression route locally has made a world of difference to my future prospects as it enabled me to further my studies without having to worry about travelling to university.”
Alongside the BA Hons Business Studies Degree, the college offers a range of 18 university level courses providing opportunities for local learners to be able to improve their prospects without the added pressure of moving away from home or travelling to a nearby university. Our higher education portfolio includes a number of foundation degrees and professional qualifications. New for 2016, the college is also introducing a Preparing to Teach qualification. This bitesize course is aimed at professionally qualified and experienced people who may not currently be teaching or training, but who are keen to develop the knowledge and skills which will allow them to do so.
This comprehensive range of courses together with the college’s state of the art facilities, learner support and resources provide the perfect environment for those looking to achieve a higher education qualification. In 2015, 83% of our higher education students were satisfied with their experience at the college which is testimony to the fantastic teaching, learning and support provided by the tutors.
All of the higher education courses are validated by the University of South Wales meaning that learners will also be able to experience all of the benefits and resources available at the University of South Wales. In addition, we have a range of bursaries and scholarships to help with the costs of study.
