Local Businesses come on board to judge college students’ fundraising ideas for Children in Need

Over 200 students at the college Merthyr Tydfil have participated in a Dragon’s Den pitch of their ideas to raise funds for BBC Cymru Children in Need. The students were divided into teams of between six-eight with a target to raise a minimum of £100 per team. All teams presented their ideas to a panel of local business representatives who were asked to judge the ideas in relation to their originality, innovativeness, appropriateness and likelihood to raise funds.   Some of the ideas put forward included, a virtual climb up Snowdon, Talent Show, Fancy dress conga, climbing wall challenge, Dodge ball tournament and a Cake and Bake sale. The top four scoring teams then progressed into a final round where they were asked to pitch their ideas to a judging panel of Company Directors including the Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil. The competition provided a fantastic opportunity for the students to gain experience of researching and presenting their ideas in a real life business situation.

The winning idea was Pudsey Pulls.
