Learning Zone

The Learning Zone is a fully equipped library and Learning Resources Centre

The library service supports learners in attaining knowledge and skills by providing a space to aid your studies, helping you develop the skills to research effectively, and providing information gathering techniques to support you during your studies.

We have a choice of rooms for you to study in, the silent study room and the multi-media room. The silent study room allows you to work or revise in an environment free from distractions, and the multi-media room is a fully functioning classroom which is great for group work and practising presentations!

We have 28 PCs, 4 MAC computers, and 22 laptops available use in the Learning Zone.

You can also bring your own devices and access the college’s Wi-Fi network

First Class Facilities

The Learning Zone aims to provide an inclusive environment which is flexible in the face of changing needs. You can expect to find:

  • Resources in multiple formats such as books, magazines, journals, DVDs.
  • Self-service facility.
  • Dedicated online catalogue, FINDit.
  • A range of guides in print and electronic format.
  • Library educational sessions such as Referencing, Research Skills, Induction.
  • Wellbeing activities such as colouring, jigsaws, board games club.
  • Disability access desks.
  • Quality customer service with friendly, approachable staff.

Our expectations

The Learning Zone is a modern, comfortable space for you to concentrate on your studies. We ask all learners to respect the areas and others’ need to study in a pleasant, calm and clean environment. Food and drinks are not allowed in the Learning Zone, however, bottled water is fine. Please keep mobile phones on silent or vibrate when in the Learning Zone; go outside if you need to make or take a call.

 

Opening Hours

The Learning Zone is open at the following times:

Monday to Wednesday 8.30am – 9pm

Thursday 8.30am – 5pm

Friday 8.30am – 4pm

You will need an ID card to get into the Learning Zone before 9am and out of the Learning Zone after 4.30pm.

Digital Learning Zone

Our library catalogue is called FINDit. You can access the catalogue, and your own library account from the comfort of your own home. You will be able to view your loaned books, renew your books, and request books

Online Resources

We subscribe to a variety of online resources to aid your studies. If you need help accessing any of these please ask a member of staff, we are more than happy to help!

 

JSTOR provides access to thousands of journal articles, books and primary sources in a wide variety of subjects.

 

Ebrary is our collection of free e-books. Here you will find lots of coursework books that you can access from home and read just the parts you need.

Review Magazines offer you expertise at A-level, with topical articles, cutting-edge research this will enable learners to deepen their subject knowledge and develop their independent learning skills.

The Vogue Archive is a searchable archive of American Vogue, from the first issue in 1892 to the current month. The Vogue Archive preserves the work of the world’s greatest

fashion designers, stylists and photographers and is a unique record of American and International fashion, culture and society
Anatomy.tv is the most accurate and detailed 3D anatomy resource online. Ask the staff for further information

Hairdressing Training. Curriculum mapped hairdressing and barbering resources. The resources are a useful reference point to aid revision for students and enhance the overall learning experience, every resources has been validated by hairdressing teachers and practitioners.
