16 more able and talented learners from The College Merthyr Tydfil will have the opportunity to participate in a brand new Brilliant Club initiative during this academic year. The college is one of only four schools/colleges in Wales to participate in this initiative that aims to widen access to highly-selective universities for pupils from under-represented groups. As part of the programme, the 16 learners (eight from Science and eight from Humanities) have signed up to work alongside PHD students from Cardiff and Swansea for this term. They will attend weekly group tutorials with the students from 2.00-4.00pm on a Wednesday afternoon which will culminate in them producing a written assignment. If successful they will attend a ‘graduation’ event at Bristol University in January 2017.
Speaking at the launch, Lisa Thomas, Vice-Principal Academic, commented "The Brilliant Club initiative is a fantastic and unique programme that not only helps to develop learners' knowledge, skills and ambition but will also help them secure places at highly-selective universities."
