The HNC in Natural Sciences seeks to provide students with a solid grounding in the fundamental areas of the chemical (e.g., organic, physical, inorganic) and biological (e.g., genetics, anatomy/physiology, microbiology) sciences. In addition to providing a strong theoretical basis, a number of the modules employed will have a strong emphasis on imparting important relevant lab-based practical skills that both enhance the students knowledge of the taught theory and, arguably more importantly, will allow the students to develop (understand and implement) those key fundamental practical techniques that will underpin their ability to potentially directly enter the workforce (e.g., as a laboratory technician), or, in the case where the student is already employed, enhance their existing practical skills base.
The HNC is ideal for those students wishing to study higher education at a local college. Successful completion of the HNC can lead to entry onto the second year of a number of named degrees at the University of South Wales: B.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sci. Applied Chemistry, B.Sc. or M.Sci. Pharmaceutical Science, or B.Sc. Human Biology.
Significant experience working in either Biological or Chemical sciences. Level 3 qualifications in Biological or Chemical sciences.
