Our mission in the Enterprise department is to discover entrepreneurial talent in the college, finding and nurturing bright young entrepreneurs of any age and level. Enterprise and entrepreneurship are embedded into our approach to teaching at TCMT. Evidence shows that students who are encouraged to use initiative and think in enterprising ways are more employable when they leave college. We regularly support students to develop ideas into viable business plans. Whether for one-to-one business mentorship or simply for an informal chat about a business concept, we are always on hand to offer advice and practical tools to grow your dream into reality.
Dafydd Jones was an engineering student at TCMT with natural entrepreneurial talent. Dafydd was referred to the Enterprise team with his idea for an app. By taking advantage of Enterprise events, competitions and mentoring opportunities, Dafydd was able to build his idea into a business. His mobile app, DOZE, designed to help prevent London Underground passengers missing their designated stop, was recently launched in the London Transport Museum. His business acumen has gone from strength to strength and Dafydd is now a Big Ideas Wales role model for other young entrepreneurs, alongside developing his next bright idea!
Business plan creation, skills assessments, competitions and events are key to engaging students with Enterprise. Competitions include the annual Wales Skills Competition, Big Ideas Wales, Be The Spark, Millennial Marketing Competition, Christmas Market, Tafflab awards and Bootcamp for Business. We also invite inspirational role models in to inspire potential entrepreneurs.
