Creative Industries students have an opportunity to inspire Neon Art Project for Merthyr Tydfil

01/11/2016

Creative Industries students at The College Merthyr Tydfil are about to embark on a unique opportunity to work with an award winning Art and Design practice to help design two sculptures for Merthyr Tydfil.

NEON Design, which is directed by architect Mark Nixon, seeks to explore new territories between architecture, design and art. They have been commissioned to produce two sculptures in Merthyr Tydfil, one directly outside The College Merthyr Tydfil and one at the beginning of the Taff Trail.

The company will take their inspiration for the sculptures from a series of workshops involving Art & Design, Photography and Performing Arts students over the coming months. Three students from the college’s Foundation Degree Art Practice will assist NEON and contribute to the process at all stages of student engagement as part of their professional practice module. Students from the Foundation Degree Photography course will also document NEON’s engagement with students at the workshops and through the design process.

To take forward the process, NEON has arranged an initial meeting with students on Monday November 7th 2016. This will be followed by four design workshops to take place across November, December and January 2017.
