College Merthyr Tydfil Girls Football Team win Welsh Colleges Tournament

The College Merthyr Tydfil Girl’s five a side football squad have won a Welsh Colleges tournament which saw them beat off competition against all of the other colleges from Wales. They will now go on to represent Welsh colleges at the AoC Sport National Championships at Bath University 27th - 29th March 2015.

This is an excellent achievement for the squad who displayed a fantastic level of teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the tournament. Organised by Welsh Colleges Sport, the tournament comprised players from across colleges in Wales participating in a range of events, including Basketball, Men’s Football, Women’s Football, Men’s Volleyball and Women’s Volleyball.

Robert Baynham, British College’s Sports Co-ordinator, commented “Participation levels at the events were generally much higher than in previous years and it was nice to see a number of colleges entering events for the first time”.

Rhydian Powell, Merthyr Sport Co-ordinator said “In total, more than 40 students from across the College Merthyr Tydfil took part in the event. We entered teams in basketball, five a side football and netball. The students represented the college well with some great results through all of the tournaments. The best result of the day was the girls five a side football squad and we are looking forward to seeing them compete at the National Championships in Bath”.

The college offers a range of competitive team sports and individual sporting activities for students to participate in. We also offer a comprehensive portfolio of courses in Sports and Public Services.
