The College Merthyr Tydfil was delighted to welcome over 800 year 9, 10 and 11 pupils from Afon Taf, Bishop Hedley, Cyfarthfa and Penydre to its recent Careers Pathway Event. The event, which was held on 4th April, utilised a range of the Welsh Government ‘Have a Go’ equipment, providing an excellent opportunity for the pupils to engage in a range of vocational and skills activities whilst at the same time speaking with course tutors, universities and employers about the learning, progression and employment pathways on offer to help them achieve these skills.
The event was supported by a range of organisations including Careers Wales, Jehu, GE Aviation, Jacobs, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, Royal Air Force, Army, Royal Navy, South Wales Police, Welsh Ambulance Service, Merthyr Valleys Homes, Acorn Training, University of South Wales, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff University and many more.
The event was a huge success with pupils and staff providing very positive feedback. The college is now planning to work with the schools and organisations to host this event on an annual basis to showcase the career pathways on offer to pupils and help them to make decisions about GCSE options, further education and higher education courses and also employment and apprenticeship pathways.
