Around the World in 40 hairstyles!
Level 2 VRQ students from The College Merthyr Tydfil wowed judges with their amazing skills at a recent hairdressing competition. Over forty students took place in the competition, which required them to create a hair and beauty image from around the world with themed costumes and makeup.
Tutor Karon Norton commented “The students worked extremely hard and took the time to research and come up with a range of innovative ‘Around The World designs’. I am very proud of them all”
Rebecca Harris was awarded 1st prize for her fantastic ‘Tribal’ creation. Rebecca said “I’m really pleased that I won, especially given some of the amazing styles on offer at the competition.”
Sophie Astley and Daniel Matthews earned 2nd and 3rd respectively for their designs on ‘Ethnic’ and ‘London Bank’.
Judging the competition, local salon owner, Nicola Evans, commented “I am overwhelmed at some of the designs on show here today. I have been judging hair competitions in the local area for the last 15 years and it will take a lot to beat what I have seen today. The level of thought and effort that has gone into these designs is evident and is testimony to the hard work of both the students and the staff. It was really difficult to pick a winner.”
Sophie Astley, who earned 2nd place
Daniel Matthews who earned 3rd place
