The sports staff and students are organising a fund raising event in aid of a former sports student, Scott Abbruzzes. Scott began studying a BTEC Level 3 (Sports Coaching) in September 2014 but unfortunately was unable to continue after developing bone cancer. Since leaving the college Scott has continued to battle with the illness and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
To help Scott and his family, year 2 students are running an ‘Abuathlon’ Charity Fundraising Event on Tuesday 16th February, 10.00am – 4.00pn in the college sports hall.
As part of the event, students and staff will aim to run 3 marathons, row the distance of the English Channel and cycle the length of Wales. Please could you help us by either coming along and supporting our staff and students or by taking part in one of the challenges. You can take part individually or as a team.
We’ll also have a number of fun activities on offer in the sports hall and atrium throughout the day.
I’ve attached a poster which provides further details of the event. If you would like to take part, please email Leanne Jones on l.jones3@merthyr.ac.uk
Please also go on to the college’s Facebook and Twitter pages and like/share our posts on this to help us promote the event and raise as much money as possible.
