Entry Requirements:
Candidates are normally expected to possess 4 GCSE grades, at A – C or equivalent BTEC/NVQ Level 2. Mature applicants are welcome and may be accepted without the prerequisite entry requirements. In all cases, acceptance on the course is by interview.
Course Description:
The BTEC qualification encompasses a broad range of business fields, including human resource management, finance, law, marketing, as well as e-Business subjects including web and database design and is equivalent to three ‘A’ levels. Assessment is by in-course assignments. In particular, the skills acquired will enable successful candidates to combine conventional business skills with modern electronic and Internet developments, or to establish and maintain a business wholly online.
The Welsh Baccalaureate runs alongside the BTEC and combines visits and projects that develop you as an individual helping to prepare you for the next steps in your career, either for work or university entrance. This qualification will enable you to complete keys skills considered important by employers and universities. You will cover subjects such as Wales Europe and the world, individual research, work experience and community work.
What you will Study:
Successful candidates will study eighteen vocational units in total. Year 1 subjects may include: Computer Applications for Financial Management, Business Communications, Investigating Business Resources, Marketing and Website Production
Year 2 subjects may include: Business Ethics, Web Production, Internet Marketing, International Business, Training in the Workplace and Managing a Business Event
Students will study the Welsh Baccalaureate alongside the Diploma; this covers subjects such as Wales, Europe and the World, Work Related Education, Personal and Social Education.
On Completion/ Career Paths:
This qualification is level 3 and equivalent to four ‘A’ levels. Consequently, successful candidates may decide to enter into higher education in a variety of business/e-business related subjects. For those candidates who want to enter employment immediately, suitable positions can be sought in the private, public and voluntary sectors in a wide variety of fields.
